At the age of 6 George was sent to work in the fields as a crow-scarer. His family spent one winter in the workhouse when his father was imprisoned for stealing two turnips from his master's field to feed his hungry family. He dedicated his life to the improvement of the wages and conditions of the farmworkers, formed the first agricultural workers' unions against bitter opposition, became an M.P. in1922 and was knighted in 1930.  This is a vital part of Norfolk's history and an inspirational story.
